Tapani Piha worked in the European Commission 2001-2018. As Head of Unit, he was responsible for digital transformation in health, the European Reference Networks for rare diseases, Directive on cross-border healthcare, developing policy on Health Technology Assessment.
 
Since 2019 in Finland, he has advised the Ministry of Social Affairs and Health and the Innovation Fund Sitra on digital health, use of health data and the EU health policy.
 
A medical specialist in public health by training, he served the Finnish government 1995-2001. At the WHO Regional Office for Europe he was Regional Adviser for a Tobacco-Free Europe.
